LEAPs at Hamilton Creek

The children living in the Hamilton Creek Apartment complex have had a lot less free time after school. Woodbine Community Organization (WCO) owns the housing development and, with apartment management, obtained a Lottery Education After-School Program grant from the state Department of Education.

Through the grant money, WCO will be able to purchase teaching materials and fund staff to provide students with after-school learning opportunities. “It involves the whole family,” said Robbi Nash, WCO chief operating officer. “Not just the kids or just the parents.” Nash said she hopes to raise the level of learning for the entire Antioch community, in which the apartments are located. WCO Executive Director Cathie Dodd said one of her goals for the program is to help increase the graduation rate in Metro Nashville Public Schools.
